I am an Iraqi writer, poet and playwright. I hold a Master's degree in Creative Writing with Distinction from Oxford University.
I was recently longlisted for the Liminal x Pantera Press Nonfiction Prize (2021). I am the winner of the AM Heath Prize for Prose (2020) and the Scribe Nonfiction Prize for Writers under 30 (2017) . In 2017, I was shortlisted for the Deborah Cass Prize for Migrant Writers.
I am widely published in Australia and the US, including Meanjin, liminal, fine print magazine, Literary Hub, The Lifted Brow, Scum Mag, Kill Your Darlings, Right Now Magazine, and Going Down Swinging.
Currently I am:
the Frank Moorehouse Reading Room Writer in Residence,
writing an essay on love and rewriting future, and
developing my first book of personal essays.
